A Sun Valley man has pleaded guilty in Los Angeles County Superior Court to forgery in the first felony conviction that involved tampering with a California Lottery ticket. Jose A. Estrada, 30, submitted a nonwinning ticket that had been cut up and pasted together to resemble a $5,000 winner, according to Lew Ritter, the lottery’s chief of security. Estrada was arrested Nov. 8, about a month after he mailed in the altered ticket, Ritter said. Estrada, who faces up to a year in prison, is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 19. Thus far, 34 people have been arrested for allegedly tampering with California Lottery tickets.
