Walnut : BKK Land-Use Study OKd
BKK landfill owners and the Walnut City Council have agreed to study the development potential of 471 acres of the firm’s property within the city’s boundaries. The agreement was approved by the City Council last week and requires the city to hire a consultant who will conduct a land-use study financed by BKK Corp., a city official said.
The BKK property is north of Amar Road, stretching from Lemon Avenue to the West Covina city limit. The agreement prohibits several types of development, including housing, schools and hospitals, within a buffer zone 2,000 feet wide immediately adjacent to the landfill. About 40% of BKK’s property is in Walnut; the rest of the landfill is in West Covina, city officials said.
