East Germany’s Uwe Dassler beat the Soviet Union’s Vladimir Salnikov in the 400-meter freestyle race at an international swimming meet in Paris.
Dassler, the 1985 European champion, was timed in 3:47.98. Salnikov was clocked in 3:49.98.
