UCI Swimmers Set 4 Records, Still Lose

The UC Irvine swim team lost a combined dual swim meet to UC Santa Barbara, 68-45, despite setting four pool records at Crawford Pool in Irvine Saturday. The Anteaters are 6-4 in combined meets.

The UC Irvine 100-meter freestyle relay team defeated the Gauchos with a time of 3:08.42 to set the first pool record. Junior Artie Williams made it two records with a time of 1:58.28 in the 200-meter backstroke. He is undefeated in the event in eight dual meets.

Junior Brian Pajer swam the 200-meter breaststroke in a time of 2:08.82 to set another pool mark. The final pool record was set by Mauro Macchi, a freshman whose 4:38.32 won the 500-meter freestyle.

Junior Meline Reed’s win in the 50-meter freestyle (25:34) was her 10th consecutive this season. She also won the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.46. She was the only double-winner in the meet.
