Hotel discounts, through various promotions, are available both north and south of the border.

For example, Budget Rent A Car has a promotion going until March 31 with more than 100 Canadian hotels and motels which provides a 50% discount off standard rack rates at these properties. For every day you rent a Budget car you can get one night’s room discount at one of the participating hotels or motels.

The car rentals can be made at any rate, including discounted or corporate rates. However, you can’t use any other promotional rate with the hotel discounts.

Make Separate Reservations

Reservations have to be made separately at Budget and at the hotel. You can use travel agents or call Budget at (800) 527-0700. The Budget reservations agent can also provide details on what hotels and motels are participating in the program, and give you the names and phone numbers of the properties in each city.

While you can make an advance reservation at the hotels/motels, the discount on the rates will only be given to you at check-in upon presentation of your Budget rental agreement.

Hotels and motels in the program include members of such chains as Best Western, Sheraton, Ramada, Holiday Inns, etc. Among the cities involved are Vancouver, Victoria, Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton.

Traveling in the other direction Sheraton has come up with a frequent-traveler award program for its Latin America division which offers guests a chance to build credits for complimentary room nights.

Called “Club Sheraton,” the program has a passport-style “bankbook” in which credits are recorded for each stay at any of six participating hotels. You can redeem these credits at seven award levels beginning with one complimentary room night for stays of seven nights to a maximum award of 10 complimentary nights for stays of 60 nights.

At Various Hotels

The stays to amass credits can be at different hotels. Hotels in the program are the Lima Sheraton in Lima, Peru; Rio Sheraton, Rio de Janeiro; Buenos Aires Sheraton, Buenos Aires; Sheraton San Cristobal, Santiago, Chile; Maria Isabel Sheraton, Mexico City, and the Sheraton Bal Harbour, Miami Beach.

You get your Club Sheraton passbook when you register, with the program open to guests who pay rack or corporate rates. You can also use the program in conjunction with the Pan Am WorldPass and American Airlines AAdvantage frequent-flyer program. Credits for the program will be given through Aug. 31. Complimentary stays through award redemption will run through June 30, 1987.

Once you decide to redeem your credits at a specific level, you have to take your award at one hotel for one stay only.
