Vote on Arms for Jordan Delayed
The House Foreign Affairs Committee, at the behest of the Reagan Administration, agreed today to postpone indefinitely a vote on a proposed $1.9-billion arms sale to Jordan that was strongly opposed by Israel.
The Administration had sought the delay in the face of overwhelming congressional opposition to the proposal. The decision came after the panel received a letter from Secretary of State George P. Shultz saying that defeat of an arms package to Jordan “at this time would severely damage the ongoing (peace) process.”
