Manufacturers Hanover may sell its mortgage unit.

The nation’s fourth-largest banking company is planning to sell its Michigan-based mortgage-banking subsidiary for about $300 million, banking sources in New York said. The plan to sell Manufacturers Hanover Mortgage has been prompted by the attractive premiums currently being paid for similar businesses and the bank’s desire to boost its capital base, industry analysts said. Bank officials declined to comment on the reports.
