Santa Fe Springs : Playhouse Gets City Funds

Share

The newly formed Santa Fe Springs Community Playhouse will receive $15,000 from the city to help the group stage its first performance in August.

The group is still searching for a director for the musical planned at either the City Hall Plaza or the Town Center, said Luis Franco, president of the playhouse. The City Council approved the $15,000 expenditure late last month on the condition that all receipts from the performance be turned over to the city, he said.

The playhouse is replacing the former Santa Fe Springs Community Theater, which staged its last performance in August. The 5-year-old theater group folded when it was saddled with debt as a result of poor attendance. The debt was eventually paid by the city.
