Britain to Sell Water Agencies

LONDON —
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s government today announced plans to sell off Britain’s water industry in the biggest and most controversial step of its privatization program.
In proposals expected to become law by the end of this year, the government outlined plans to sell off individually 10 English and Welsh water authorities in a deal that could raise $8.4 billion.
