AIP TRIBUTE OPENS SATURDAY
The American International Film Festival, a seven evening tribute to American International Pictures, will open Saturday at USC’s Norris Cinema Theater with two controversial Roger Corman films, “The Wild Angels,” starring Peter Fonda and Nancy Sinatra, and “The Trip,” an LSD fantasy written by Jack Nicholson.
The retrospective, presented by the DKA Film Society of USC’s School of Cinema/Television, will continue Sunday with “Beach Blanket Bingo,” starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, and the Edgar Allen Poe classic, “The Premature Burial,” starring Vincent Price.
From 1954 to 1980, A.I.P. made a large impact on independent filmmaking. Filmmakers who got their start at the company include producers and directors Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, and Brian DePalma, and actors Jack Nicholson, Charles Bronson, Robert DeNiro and Richard Pryor.
