Two Convicted of Buying Votes--Both Lost Anyway

TAIPEI, Taiwan —
Two women candidates in Taipei council elections held last November were jailed for eight months Thursday for buying votes, a court official said.
Independent candidates Li Ya-ching, 32, and Chu Ya-ling, 21, were convicted of paying voters $10 each.
Neither was elected.
