Special-Order Replacements for Earrings

Share

Question: In July, a very special man gave me a pair of Chanel earrings, which I damaged accidentally. I want to replace them, but cannot find the same style. They are clip-on earrings with a large pearl in the center surrounded by antiqued gold or brass. The number on the back is 2200. They match a Chanel choker with 3561 on the back (snapshot enclosed). Please help me locate another pair.--M.J.

Answer: Your earrings are available both at the Chanel boutique, 2233 Kalakawa Ave., Honolulu, Hawaii 96815, and at Bergdorf Goodman, 754 Fifth Ave., New York, N.Y. 10019. After researching this matter and looking at the picture of your necklace, Chanel’s Suzanne Urban reports that despite the 2200 number on the back of your damaged earrings, the current style number is 2189. This is, of course, the number you should use in ordering your new earrings.

Q: Where can I find 100% cotton panty hose?--A.A.

A: You can’t. Spandex nylon or polyester content is required for panty hose or they will not stretch and recover enough to wear without sagging. You can buy panty hose made of 84% cotton, 16% core-spun yarn of polyester/cotton. These are available for $29 in beige or white only, Sizes Small, Medium and Large, at Roxanne, 105-17 Metropolitan Ave., Forest Hills, N.Y. 11375. This shop also offers 100% cotton lisle stockings, beige only, in Sizes 9 1/2, 10, 10 1/2 and 11 for $3.99. Spandex or polyester is not required in stockings because they are held up by garters and can be readjusted every time the stockings start to sag.

Q: I bought a silver fox coat for about $2,000. The furrier said it would shed but I never dreamed how much. Nothing helps, even a cleaning. Can you suggest anything to stop the shedding?--J.B.

A: Get ready to shed a few tears because no hope is in sight. Laurie Bodor at Revillon Furs says your fox coat will continue to shed. She says your coat will molt less in cold weather, but it is the nature of fox to shed. And unless you spend the rest of your life in cold storage with your fox coat, you’ll continue to have the problem.
