UC Irvine Men Remain Unbeaten in Tennis

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team, ranked 17th in the nation, remained undefeated with an easy 7-2 nonconference victory over the University of San Diego Friday at San Diego.

Bruce Man Son Hing, the Anteaters’ No.1 singles player, and No.4 Julian Barham both swept their matches to help Irvine improve its record to 3-0. Irvine’s doubles teams also swept their matches.

San Diego fell to 1-4 with the loss.

In women’s nonconference tennis:

USIU 5, UC Irvine 1--The Gulls, ranked 14th, won a rain-shortened match at Irvine. Uma Rao picked up Irvine’s only point by defeating USIU’s Bettina Wieneke, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Irvine (4-4) was leading in both doubles matches when rain stopped the match. The Anteaters will take on the nation’s top-ranked team, USC, on Tuesday.
