MR. NICE NEWS

It’s good to see someone is following the curious career path of Tom Brokaw (“Can Nice News Finish Last?,” by Irv Letofsky, Feb. 2).

Coming from a more hard-nosed, if not cynical school of journalism, I found Brokaw’s gig with Pat Boone and the Reagans at Christmas to be an odd performance even for a nice TV anchorman. It’s hard to imagine Edward R. Murrow going caroling with Ike and Mamie.

When Brokaw’s Christmas special was followed with his hard-hitting Presidential interview prior to the Super Bowl, it made me wonder how much further nice journalism will go. Perhaps Tom will next lead the President on an Easter Egg hunt across the White House lawn.
