Fullerton : Students to Jog for Statue of Liberty

Share

Jogging may be a popular pastime, but students at Laguna Road Elementary School also consider it a viable way to raise money for the Statue of Liberty.

The kindergarten through sixth-grade students at Laguna Road school are warming up now for their fund-raising jog-a-thon, to be held Tuesday through Friday.

The event will be the highlight of the school’s Liberty Week celebration, which coincides with the city’s ongoing involvement in the nationwide Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island restoration project.

The jog-a-thon will be held on the school playground during different class periods all three days. Parents and friends will be asked to pledge money for each lap a student runs. All pledges will be donated to the restoration effort.

Also during the week, a five-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty will be unveiled. The statue was constructed by students in one of the school’s fifth-grade classes.
