A prominent Ventura County accountant who was formerly an Ojai city councilman was fined $10,000 and ordered to repay $74,000 embezzled from a dead woman’s estate. Superior Court Judge Charles McGrath sentenced Clifford Hey after a lengthy hearing at which Hey claimed he had no criminal intent when he took the money. Hey, 57, who had been trustee for the estate of Eleanor Veevers, was convicted last month of 29 counts of embezzlement, one count of perjury and one count of submitting a false document to the court.
