A state board revoked the licenses of a contractor who installed fire sprinklers that were not attached to a water supply in a Monterey school chapel. The Contractors State License Board took away two licenses issued to Dennis W. Frye of Fair Oaks, a Sacramento suburb. “I find that such conduct, the deliberate installation of an inoperable fire protection system in a school chapel, shows a callous disregard for the safety and welfare of the citizens of the state of California,” wrote John Maloney, registrar of the board. Sondra Vaughan of the board said seven to nine other buildings where Frye had installed unattached fire sprinklers had been identified. Vaughan said the board has notified fire officials throughout Northern California and urged them to check their records and inspect the estimated 100 jobs Frye had done.
