A storm lingering over the Southwest plunged temperatures into the teens in the Texas Panhandle, making it colder than Alaska, while a Northeast storm that dumped up as much as nine inches of snow in parts of New Jersey fizzled. New Mexico received a fourth day of snow with icy and slushy travel conditions. Blowing and drifting snow forced officials to close Interstate 40 between Santa Rosa and Tucumcari. A small civilian plane approaching for an emergency landing in the snowstorm crashed into the roof of a hangar at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. The plane’s pilot and two passengers were injured.
