Yelena Bonner accepted honorary degrees on behalf of her husband, dissident Soviet physicist Andrei D. Sakharov, at a meeting of the Committee of Concerned Scientists in New York. The awards were from Rutgers University, Long Island University and the University of Pennsylvania. Bonner, 62, did not talk with the press, in keeping with a Soviet condition for granting her a temporary visa.
