Gunmen Kill Florence Ex-Mayor
Associated Press
FLORENCE, Italy —
Two terrorists firing from a car shot and killed former Mayor Lando Conti today in the hills outside this central Italian city, police said.
Police said that Conti, 52, was in a car when the shooting occurred and that the terrorists, who were riding in a small red Fiat, left a Red Brigades propaganda leaflet before fleeing. The Red Brigades have not claimed responsibility for an assassination since last March 27, when leading economist Ezio Tarantelli was killed in Rome.
