Dannemeyer Quits Senate Race

From United Press International

Rep. William E. Dannemeyer, a vocal critic of homosexuals and a sponsor of strong anti-AIDS legislation, announced today that he is dropping out of the crowded Republican race for U.S. Senate because of a shortage of campaign money.

“If you can’t convince your friends and neighbors to put up the money to make the race viable, I think you probably don’t belong,” Dannemeyer said. The conservative congressman from Fullerton said he needed $2 million but raised only $500,000 in donations and pledges.
