Forty-four senators called on Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III today to consider the indictment of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat for the murders of two U.S. diplomats 13 years ago.

According to Sens. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), evidence collected by the Justice Department indicates Arafat ordered the May 2, 1973, killing of Cleo Noel, U.S. ambassador to Sudan, and Charge d’Affaires G. Curtis Moore, who were gunned down by eight terrorists who seized the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan.
