Tire Blaze in Junkyard Brought Under Control

SPENCER, Mass. —
A fire reportedly set by an arsonist in hundreds of thousands of tires in a junkyard was contained Wednesday but could continue burning for days, authorities said.
The acrid, black smoke billowing from the site posed no immediate health hazard to residents of the central Massachusetts community of 10,774 people, a spokesman for the Environmental Quality Engineering Department said.
