EDGAR ALLEN GLASS

Move over, Roger Corman. Minimalist composer Philip Glass plans to bring Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” to the screen--as a musical. First, it will be staged for the American Rep Theater in Boston, tentatively next spring.

A spokesman for the composer said he hopes to snare John Bailey (“The Big Chill,” “Mishima”) as cinematographer. “And we’ve been throwing out some names of singers who might star.” (Both Sting and David Bowie have been mentioned.)

But why would Glass want to set Poe’s tale (of a doomed brother and sister) to music? “I’m into American gothic,” Glass told Outtakes. “And besides--it’s short.”
