‘Here’s to the Ladies’

Share

Surely Kilpatrick could not have known that his curmudgeonly column would appear in the same section of The Times as articles or letters about or quoting:

--The first black woman to head the Los Angeles Municipal Court.

--A Los Angeles woman running for a U.S. Senate seat.

--A senior litigation counsel for the U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles and head of the sex crimes unit of the New York County district attorney’s office, both women.

--Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Theresa.

--A candidate for the Philippines presidency, Corazon Aquino.

The Metro section had only six pages in the Feb. 3 Times.

Perhaps if time allows Kilpatrick to retreat from sloppy stereotyping long enough (bra-burning is a myth, and “lesbian in combat shoes” is cruelty unbecoming to a columnist of his standing), he will enjoy the happy discovery that many compassionate and competent women are too busy to go to the wall over the Catholic University lecture series.

May he soon fall off that ice floe to find us and join us--in the mainstream.
