It is really quite tragic how a whole generation of young movie lovers are watching many great films on TV without having any idea how beautiful they really looked when they first premiered in the theater. When I first saw “The French Connection” in 1972 I was tremendously impressed by the vivid color photography of the Big Apple as seen by the tough cop going after the big heroin bust. When the film was aired on TV recently the print was grainy, scratchy and devoid of its original color saturation, not to mention the very poor sound!
