The University of Minnesota has begun disciplinary action against Jim Dutcher, former basketball coach, and Jimmy Williams, the interim coach, for their alleged role in an effort to raise funds for the defense of a basketball player on a rape charge.

In a prepared statement, Athletic Director Paul Giel said that an investigation has shown that, contrary to previous statements by both coaches, Williams and Dutcher not only knew about the fund-raising effort but that Williams, at Dutcher’s instruction, suggested it to a member of the Gopher booster club.
