The scene of two days of cannery strike-associated violence, when tear gas was used to turn back a crowd, was reported quiet by Watsonville police. “It’s real quiet. . . ,” said Police Chief Ray Belgard. “We’re not allowing people to gather in (groups of) more than three or four.” About 1,700 members of Teamsters Local 912 went on strike in September against Watsonville Canning and Richard Shaw Frozen Foods. The dispute at Shaw was settled last week. Union local Secretary-Treasurer Sergio Lopez said union members were not involved.
