Celebrity Polo Tournament Is Today at Indio

William Devane, Pamela Sue Martin, Alex Cord, Doug Sheehan and Tommy Lee Jones will be among those competing in the Piaget Uplifter’s Cup, a celebrity polo tournament, today at the Eldorado Polo Club in Indio.

Proceeds from the event, sponsored by Piaget Watch Corporation, Bollinger Champagne, the Desert Princess Resort, Michelob and Crystal Geyser Mineral Water, will benefit the Bob Hope Cultural Center.

A Bollinger Champagne gourmet picnic will be served fieldside for the golden patrons of the Cultural Center at 11:30 a.m.

The tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with a skydiving display and parade of celebrities. There will also be an exhibition of memorabilia from the original Uplifter’s Club and a Diana Fres fashion show.

Celebrities expected to be in attendance include Bob Hope, Charles Haid, Donna Mills, Charlene Tilton, Jennifer O’Neill, Harry Hamlin, Joan Van Ark, David Hasselhoff, John James, Jameson Parker, Laura Johnson, Julie Harris, Ted Shackelford, Ali McGraw, Billy Moses, and many others. Michelle Lee will sing the National Anthem.

The Uplifter’s Cup is being re-created in the spirit of the legendary Uplifter’s Polo Club of Spencer Tracy, Darryl Zanuck, Clark Gable, Walt Disney, and Will Rogers.
