Photographer Leo Tierney Dies

BOSTON — M. Leo Tierney, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer and assistant photo editor for the Boston Herald, has died at the age of 53.
Tierney, who joined the Boston American as a copy boy in 1952, died Saturday at his home in Stoneham after a long illness, the Herald said.
He remained with the newspaper through several mergers and was appointed assistant photo editor of the Herald-American in 1976. He shared the Pulitzer Prize with a team of Herald-American photographers for coverage of a blizzard in February, 1978.
A Tierney is survived by his wife, Helen, their five children, his mother and stepfather, two sisters and two brothers.
