Most Americans back more farm aid, a poll found.

A national survey of 1,174 adults, conducted by the New York Times/CBS Poll, found that 55% would pay higher federal taxes to help the nation’s farmers save their land, a 14% increase from a year ago. Just 12% favored a cut in government farm spending, compared to 14% a year ago. The poll showed wide awareness of farm problems, with five of six Americans believing that at least half of the nation’s farmers are facing serious economic difficulties.
