Police Chief Loyal to Marcos Is Murdered
The police chief of this Negros Island city and his driver were shot to death by an unknown gunman Tuesday, hours after the chief declared his loyalty to now-deposed President Ferdinand E. Marcos during a television interview, police said.
Chief Gilfredo Geolingo, 55, and his driver, a patrolman, were killed when about 10 bullets were fired from a passing car into their vehicle, police Sgt. Antonio Marco said.
During the interview, conducted before Marcos resigned, Geolingo said he would not follow orders issued by the rival president, Corazon Aquino.
