Western Union reported a $367.2-million net loss for 1985, up sharply from the $58.4-million loss that it reported a year earlier. On Feb. 10, the 145-year-old company reported that it would record special charges of about $300 million against earnings for the fourth quarter of 1985, primarily for the write-down of older-generation switching and transmission equipment.
