New Group of Venice Property Owners Plans to Set Goals for Canal Cleanup

The board of directors of the newly formed Silver Strand Marina Assn. will meet Tuesday to adopt goals on parking and cleanup of the Grand Canal and discuss a proposed environmental impact study of the area.

Harlan Lee, one of the organizers of the association, said that members own property along the canal that extends north from the entrance channel of Marina del Rey to Marquesas Way on the Venice Peninsula.

Lee, who has built 17 of the approximately 100 homes in the area, said the association’s major goal is to determine if something can be done to upgrade the canal.

“The canal is filthy and it smells,” Lee said. “We are just getting started as an association, but we want to see what can be done to improve an area where the newer homes sell for $700,000 to $800,000.”

Lee lives in a home on Venice Beach but said he is building a new residence on the Silver Strand.
