More cocaine has been seized at California’s Mexican border points in the last two months than in all of 1985, an apparent result of drug trafficking crackdowns in Florida, a U.S. Customs official said. “Narcotics seizures in the San Diego ports of entry have substantially increased and show signs of breaking all previously set records,” said Allan Rappoport, San Diego district customs director. Since Jan. 1, nearly 5,000 pounds of marijuana and 131 pounds of cocaine have been seized at California’s five Mexican border crossings, compared with 103 pounds of cocaine and 12,000 pounds of marijuana in 1985.
