Two Killed by Blaze at Refinery

Share

The bodies of two men were removed from the wreckage of a Union Oil refinery unit in Wilmington early this morning in the aftermath of a fire that was apparently started by a leak in a fuel line and burned for five hours overnight.

Twenty-seven Fire Department companies extinguished the blaze and used water and flame-retarding foam to cool nearby units. The cause of the leak is under investigation, authorities said. In addition to the two victims, whose identities were not released, a female security guard was treated for skin irritation after she was sprayed with oil.
