350 Parents Cited in Latest Child Support Enforcement

More than 350 parents surrendered or were arrested in the Los Angeles County district attorney’s latest attempt to collect delinquent child support payments, prosecutors said Monday.
Meanwhile, feminist attorney Gloria Allred and about 10 supporters staged a sit-in Monday at Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner’s office to demand that he meet with them to discuss their suggestions for improving his child support enforcement program.
Reiner did not meet with the demonstrators and at about 6 p.m. security officers at the criminal courts building physically evicted Allred and her group. Allred staged a similar sit-in last year, which also ended with her eviction.
Prosecutors said 287 persons were arrested and 66 more surrendered during the 10-day sweep that began Feb. 27 and ended Saturday. The arrestees were booked for misdemeanors and had court dates set.
