Fujitsu Headquarters Will Move Into New Building

Fujitsu Systems of America will move its 350-employee headquarters staff this summer from its current Torreyana Road office to a soon-to-be-completed building at the intersection of Interstate 5 and Del Mar Heights Road, company officials announced on Tuesday.

The $12-million, seven-year lease for the 125,000-square-foot building is one of the largest office leases ever signed in San Diego County, according to a spokesman for Coldwell Banker, which served as Fujitsu Systems’ broker.

Fujitsu Systems, a U.S. subsidiary of Fujitsu Ltd. of Japan, moved its corporate headquarters to San Diego in 1984. Before that move, only Fujitsu Systems’ software development group was located in San Diego, according to Fujitsu Systems President Donald Moffet.

The company markets automatic teller machines (ATMs) to financial institutions and sophisticated, computerized cash register systems to retail stores. It recently won a major contract to provide ticket printers and boarding pass printers to United Airlines.

The subsidiary does not break out revenue and profit figures, Moffet said. The company employs 500 people across the country, including the 350 in San Diego.

“We’re going to occupy over 100,000 square feet from Day 1 when we move this summer,” said Moffet. “The remainder is for expansion. We’ve got about 350 people sandwiched into about 60,000 square feet right now and are adding about 10 to 15 people a month.”

The new headquarters building will also house Fujitsu Customer Service of America, a Fujitsu Ltd. subsidiary that was created in July to function as a “direct service organization for all of Fujitsu’s products,” Moffet said.
