The World : Soviets to Telecast Liftoff

Share

The Soviet Union announced it will launch two cosmonauts aboard a Soyuz spacecraft today, and it said the liftoff will be telecast live from the Baikonur Space Center in Soviet Central Asia. A Soviet space official said that Leonid Kizim and Vladimir Solovyov are to travel aboard their Soyuz T-15 craft to the orbiting Mir space station, which was sent up Feb. 20. The rare advance publicity given to the mission follows a string of successes for the Soviet space program, including the launching of the Mir and spectacular photographs taken of Halley’s Comet by two unmanned Vega probes.
