Future of Original Music Clubs to Be Examined by Panel Today

The future of Orange County original music clubs will be examined today by a panel including local government officials, club owners and musicians.

The meeting, sponsored by the Orange County Entertainment Writers Assn., will be held at 4 p.m. at Domino McFly’s restaurant, 4248 Martingale Way, Newport Beach.

Scheduled to take part are the former operators of the Golden Bear, Richard and Charles Babiracki; Radio City owner Jerry Roach; Safari Sam’s owner Sam Lanni; Jack Richards, former owner of Spatz, and booking agent Ed Christensen.

Representing cities will be Fullerton Police Chief Martin Hairabedian; City Councilman Jack Kelly and City Atty. Gail Hutton, both of Huntington Beach, and Costa Mesa City Atty. Tom Wood.

Attorney Ron Talmo, a professor of law at Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, will discuss legal and constitutional issues involved in the closings of clubs in recent months.

Local musicians will include Jack Lloyd of Cathedral of Tears, Jason Mann of El Grupo Sexo and James Harman of the James Harman Band.
