Boston Neighborhoods Get ‘Beat Cops’ Again

BOSTON —
After a 10-year absence, the old-fashioned “beat cop” is returning to the neighborhoods of Boston. The plan, announced Wednesday, means officers will be assigned to patrol specific neighborhoods, usually in their cars.
For the last decade, Boston police officers have patrolled the city at large.
