U.N. Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar will make an official visit to Latin America next month, but it will be limited to only three countries, a spokesman said Wednesday.

Perez de Cuellar will visit Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, beginning March 31, spokesman Francois Giuliani said.

Exact dates have not yet been set, but the entire visit will not last more than a week, Giuliani said.

“Preparations for the resumed session of the General Assembly, in addition to his normally heavy work schedule, have required the secretary general, to his regret, to reduce the duration of his trip, which was originally envisaged as a considerably longer one, both in terms of the number of countries to be visited and the time spent in each,” Giuliani said.

He declined to list the countries that had to be omitted from the itinerary.
