Purdue University has relieved Paul Curtis of his duties as an assistant men’s basketball coach after a shoplifting charge was filed in the attempted theft of clothes from a store near Elkhart, Ind., school officials said.
Curtis, a full-time Boilermakers’ assistant since the summer of 1982, is scheduled for a March 31 hearing in Elkhart County Court.
Curtis is charged with trying to take a jacket and two other items--a total value of $250--from the store. Security personnel took Curtis into custody, and he was placed in the Elkhart County Jail. He was released after making a statement.
