Whitney Ganz of Los Angeles drove a Buick Hawk prototype around the World War II Army Air Corps runway course in a record 133.134 m.p.h. to win the pole for today’s Sebring 12-hour endurance race at Sebring, Fla.

Ganz, who is teamed with John Paul Jr. and Ken Madren in the Buick Hawk, guided it around the bumpy 4.86-mile track in 2 minutes 11.4 seconds.
