Ex-Rep. Hansen Gets Delay of Prison Term
United Press International
WASHINGTON —
A federal judge delayed sending former Rep. George Hansen (R-Ida.) to prison today to consider last-minute petitions his lawyers filed seeking a reduced sentence and a new trial.
District Judge Joyce Hens Green stayed Hansen’s sentence of 5 to 15 months in prison and a $40,000 fine and gave Justice Department lawyers until April 10 to respond to new motions. Hansen, 55, who omitted listing $334,000 in profits and loans, is the first public official convicted of filing false financial disclosures in Congress.
