Sen. Hawkins May Face Surgery for Back Pains

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Sen. Paula Hawkins (R-Fla.), who suffers chronic back pain, will check into Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C., for a spinal test this week after the Senate begins its Easter break, an aide said.
If surgery is recommended, it may be performed Saturday, spokesman Bill Hart said. The recess is to begin Thursday.
