Police Chief Raymond C. Davis has been named Police Chief of the Year for 1985 by the Law Enforcement Management Center, a Stanton-based group.
The award was presented to him last week at a dinner in his honor sponsored by the local chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens and the Santiago Club, a local Latino service organization.
Latino leaders have praised Davis and the Police Department for refusing to assist Immigration and Naturalization Service agents who make periodic sweeps in search of undocumented aliens.
In presenting the award, center director John McKee said it honors chiefs for the ability to offer the best service at lowest cost per capita, efficiency and community involvement in police affairs. The Law Enforcement Management Center conducts seminars on financial management for police administrators.
Davis recently took over a newly created post of deputy city manager in charge of the Police and Fire departments.
