MOSCOW — Soviet officials have alerted American television networks to what they said will be an important announcement scheduled for tonight on the main evening news program here.
The extraordinary notification of a major news event came as the self-imposed Soviet moratorium on nuclear tests approached its scheduled expiration Monday.
Officials from the Foreign Ministry press department suggested that the American television networks might want to order time on a communications satellite tonight following broadcast of Vremya, the 9 p.m. (8 a.m. PST) news showcase.
Last year on Easter, Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev signaled that he would attend a summit with President Reagan and announced a moratorium on deploying additional nuclear missiles in the European zone of the Soviet Union.
