Griglione, Dalbey Add More Medals in Swim Nationals

Michelle Griglione of Alexandria, Va., and Troy Dalbey of San Jose, Calif., each claimed another gold medal to continue their impressive showings Friday night in the Phillips 66-U.S. Swimming Short Course national championships at the Justus Aquatics Center.

Griglione, who swims for the Curl Swim Club in Darnstown, Md., also swam on a winning relay team to grab her fifth first-place award after four days in the five-day meet.

She romped to victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:59.98 then teammed with Christine Smith, Jennie Sawyer, Kelley Davies on the winning 400 freestyle relay team which was timed in 3:21.18.

Dalbey, who won one individual event and one relay Thursday night for San Jose Aquatics, edged Dan Jorgensen of Irvine, Calif., in the 500-yard freestyle Friday night. Dalbey was timed in 4:17.30 with Jorgensen right behind at 4:17.45.

Dalbey also anchored a winning relay team, as San Jose swam the 400 freestyle event in 2:59.20.

The other women’s winners were Debbie Babashoff of Mission Viejo, Calif., with a time of 4:42.74 in the 500 freestyle and Jeanne Doolan of Texas Aquatics with a time of 22.88 in the 50 freestyle.

The other men’s winners were David Wharton of Foxcatcher Swim Team of Philadelphia in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:47.11, and Siong Ang of Woodlands with a time of 20.07 in the 50 freestyle.
