A WHOPPER

An article (by Steve Pond) on box-office blues in Rolling Stone had producer Ed Feldman waxing philosophical: “The audience isn’t as stupid as some people think. They can only be bludgeoned over the head by the same kind of youth movies so many times, and then they’re gonna react. . . .”

Feldman was identified in the article as producer of “Witness.”

But who could forget such Feldman films as “Hot Dog: The Movie” and “The Hitcher”? And--”Hamburger: The Motion Picture” . . . which got possibly the worst reviews of any film so far this year?

Review in point, from Daily Variety’s Jim Harwood: “To judge ‘Hamburger’ fairly requires certain relative standards of the filmgoing experience. If, for example, the theater were captured by terrorists and a member of the audience killed every 20 minutes for eight days, that would be a bad filmgoing experience. Without the terrorists, watching ‘Hamburger’ is merely a poor filmgoing experience.”
